Welcome to SMSU

SMSU is your Students’ Union. It is run by you, for you and has a number of roles:
Education • Representation • Community • Welfare

We represent students and give you a chance to input your views about your student experience direct to the University College at meetings with staff and management. We aim to add value to your time at St Mary’s by providing activities and extra-curricular learning opportunities through our sports clubs, cultural societies and various social events.

We provide lots of opportunities for you to develop your personal interests, employability skills and achieve your personal development plans.

We want every student to feel welcome, to have a full and lively social life and we do everything we can to create a student community within which life-long friendships are made and the best times ever are had.

We help students who may be encountering problems with student life and guide and support them through complaints and disciplinary procedures, etc.

You are represented by the Students’ Union President and the Athletics Union President who are elected by the students to work for them as full-time sabbatical officers, providing support and advice and ensuring the SU is responding to your views and demands and providing the kind of SU you deserve. Having been students themselves helps the sabbs to share their experiences, to be responsible for St Mary’s students and help to create a great experience for all.
