Your Union

Representation

We represent you by listening to students and making sure your views are made known and taken on board through university college committees as well as through direct feedback to members of staff and senior management. We can also campaign on larger scale issues affecting students if you want us to.

All in all we aim to ensure that you and the students who come after you are able to make the most of every opportunity and have the best possible time at St Mary’s. All students are members of the SU and get to vote on important issues at our Annual General Meeting as well as voting to elect the sabbatical officers and Executive Committee members each year.

The SMSU Council is made up of all the presidents of all the clubs and societies and student programme board representatives from each school and develops policy to decide which issues the SU should take forward on students’ behalf.

Our Executive Committee is effectively the SU Cabinet, responsible for the day-to-day decision making process and the running of the SU. It is led by the SU and AU presidents and all its members are elected annually by you.

How?
If you have a problem with or an idea about your teaching and learning, then you should tell
it to your student course representative who will pass it on to the Programme Board and/or to the SU Council. If you have any issues with any other aspect of student life at St Mary’s, then
you should tell it to one of the sabbatical officers, a member of the SU Executive Committee, Council. You can email us at smsu@smuc.ac.uk, ring us on 020 8240 4312 or just pop up to the first floor of the SU and tell us about it face-to-face and in confidence if you wish.
