Red Bull Flugtag returns to
To enter all you need to do is convince 3 mates that it’s worth jumping off a 20ft high ramp into the cold waters of The Serpentine in front of a crowd of 80,000 people!
To find out more details on how to enter a team and to download an application form simply go to www.redbullflugtag.co.uk.
The winning team will be the one that not only flies the furthest, but also impresses the judges and crowd with their pre-flight performance and displays the best design and originality in their flying machine and team.
To give you some help on deciding if and how you should enter, Tim Simpson, the winner from the first UK Flugtag in 2003, has pulled together his Top 10 Tips for Triumph:
Choose your team wisely
They are the people you'll rely on to keep you aloft. Key qualities to look out for might include advanced aeronautical knowledge, An engineering background, theatricality and a healthy sense of the ridiculous.
Plan Meticulously
By planning your flying machine, costumes, entertainment and strategy like a military campaign from the start you'll save a lot of time and panic later on. Buy a BIG notebook.
Think big and aim high
When you're entertaining the masses you really need to wow them, make your entertainment as big as you possibly can. Think Pink Floyd meets the
Beg, borrow and... erm .. scrounge
You'll find people are more than happy to help out with time and materials once they discover you're going to be on TV. Happy hunting.
Keep safe
Flying such vast distances can be a hazardous business, keep the safety and comfort of your pilot as top priority, if you plan a very long flight a packed lunch may also be required.
Take time to meet your competitors
Not only is it a good idea to get the measure of the opposition but you might also find a true meeting of minds with some of the other teams. Use the Pilot's Lounge on the website and enjoy the Pre-flight Party to the full.
The Sky's the limit
But don't let that stop you. If you think you've already planned the biggest baddest maddest machine, up the ante and make it bigger, badder and madder still.
Use your Red Bull stash wisely
The final week will involve a lot of late nights; keep a few cans in reserve for when your team needs an extra boost.
Tell everyone you know
It's amazing how many people will come out of the woodwork to help you and cheer you on your way. That extra bit of partisan support on the big day can't hurt your score either.
and finally
Don't have your mobile in your pocket when you launch into the lake
