GOAL! (Go Out And Listen!) Campaign

From October 10th - 15th, SMSU will be trawling the campus to find out YOUR opinions about life at St. Mary’s - what’s great about the place and what could be better. It’s also a great chance to find out more about what SMSU can do to make your time here more enjoyable and productive!

Look out for our team in bright t-shirts around between 11am and 2pm everyday. Every student who takes part will be entered into a prize draw for a free Christmas Ball ticket!

Summer Ball 2011

So a lot of you have been asking what is included in the Ball ticket….so here goes:

Dinner:

The dinner includes a drink reception and a three course meal, each table has a few bottles of wine of their choice!

We have live entertainment until 6am Saturday morning which include:

Elections 2011 - The Results!

The Results are in!

This year saw a record turnout of over 1100 votes, one of the largest in SMSU History!

A huge congratulations to our new SU President, Joni Miller, our new AU President, Sam Grayson and our Executive Committee member - George Harris.

Problems with online payments

Unfortunately, our facility for online transactions is no longer available.

Tickets will now be sold from the Students’ Union Hub on the first floor of the Students’ Union. Our next big event is SIMMStock!

Bernie's Bar now has Sky Sports 1,2,3 & 4!

Bernie’s Bar now has Sky Sports 1,2,3 & 4, meaning all live sports and events will be shown live in the SU Bar!

We’re starting with the first game of the rugby 6 Nations - Wales v England. Coverage from 7.45pm. This is followed by our third Use it or Lose it night in Bernie’s Bar. We’ve bought loads of new CDs for Karaoke!

This Sunday, Chelsea face Liverpool for the first time since Torres made his move to Chelsea. KO is 4pm and coverage begins at 3pm.

Most pints are still just £1.80.

Student Sport Alliance

Your SU is currently working towards the establishment of a new Student Sport Alliance, where SMSU will work in equal partnership with St Mary’s staff and Sport St Mary’s to develop a new strategy and model to help improve our student sports clubs and our performance in the BUCS leagues.  Your Student Council will meet today (Tuesday 18 January) at 4pm to elect three representatives to the new Alliance.  Further information can seen below - just click the links!

Tonight is the night! Xmas Ball 2010 is taking place tonight from 10om in the Hippodrome in Kingston.

Students Needed for ITV Games Testing

My name is Carol Baffour and I am a researcher working for a television production company called Gallowgate TV. I am currently developing the second series of ITV’s Saturday night show called “Ant and Dec’s Push The Button”. We are currently in the process of testing two games with our presenters Ant and Dec and we are looking for people to come down to Elstree Studios to help us with that.

SU Hub Opening Hours

The SU shop will continue to be open daily between 9.30 and 5.00 but will now close for lunch between 12.30 and 1.30.

We trust this won’t cause any inconvenience to students or staff. However, if anyone finds this arrangement difficult could they please contact Linda on ext. 4312 and she will do her best to accommodate them.

In addition, the shop will be open at lunchtimes during busy periods for ticket collection, etc.

SU Bar - Use it or lose it!

Use it or lose it!

Your SU Bar is in danger of closing and only YOU can save it!

Last year the bar made a loss and if more students don’t use it then it’s highly likely it will close. In recent years, the SU Bar has been the focal point of our little St Mary’s community and sadly it looks like we could lose that. But YOU can change that!

The bar is owned and managed by the University College which is facing government cuts of 40% and looking for targets to save it money. The bar has already…

A polite request...

Unfortunately we have been inundated with complaints from neighbours about noise and anti-social behaviour from our students on Wednesday nights and after the Pub2Club on Monday nights.

We know that only a small minority of students are responsible for such selfish and immature behaviour – but would be grateful if everyone could remember to be quiet and respectful to our neighbours late at night.  People may mean no harm but some neighbours find it frightening and tell us that their children cannot sleep and have school in the morning.
